What Red Lipstick Means to Me

What Red Lipstick Means to Me

There’s something about red lipstick.

It’s bold. It’s loud without speaking. It enters the room before you do. And for me, it’s more than just a makeup choice. It’s a quiet revolution.

I didn’t always feel this way. In fact, the past version of me would never have dared to wear red lipstick. I didn’t want people looking at me. I wanted to blend in, to be invisible, to stay safe.

But something shifted.

Evermugi was born from that shift.

A deep desire to stop hiding and to start living more visibly, more creatively, and more confidently. Evermugi isn’t just about design. It’s about creative confidence, especially for those of us who have lived between cultures, identities, or expectations. And for me, this journey began with small rebellions, like putting on red lipstick, even when no one else around me was wearing it.

In Japan, red lipstick isn’t really an everyday thing. Unless it’s trending, people don’t usually wear it. But I didn’t want to wait for a trend. I wanted to wear it because it felt like me. It reminded me of the kind of confidence I admire in women like Hwasa, Jennie, and Taylor Swift. They’re artists, yes, but what I really admire is how they own who they are. They show up. They don’t shrink.

So lately, I’ve been searching for the perfect red. Not just for the color or the finish, but because it means something. Red lipstick has become a quiet mantra for me.

Be bold. Be you.

When I wear it, it’s not about standing out. It’s about showing up. It’s my way of saying to myself, “I’m here, and I’m not hiding anymore.”

Red lipstick is a promise.

A promise to show up creatively, even when it feels scary. A promise to design what feels true to me, not just what’s trending. A promise to trust my voice and my vision, even when doubt creeps in.

And the truth is, I’m still scared about releasing my products. I still wonder if they’re good enough, or if anyone will care. But confidence has to start somewhere, right? For me, it starts here. With one design at a time. One step at a time. One bold red lip at a time.

That’s what Evermugi is really about. And if you’ve ever felt like you’re somewhere in between...cultures, languages, expectations, or versions of yourself, I hope this space makes you feel seen.

Thanks for being here.
See you next week.

Mugi
